PHILADELPHIA ORGANIZERS HOLD SHOE DRIVE FOR
SOLES4SOULS® INC.
JANUARY 14, 2012
Members of the National Association of Professional Organizers in the Greater Philadelphia area (NAPO-GPC) recently completed a six-month used shoe campaign collecting over 12,000 pairs of shoes for the needy.
In June 2011, the charity Soles4Souls issued a shoe challenge to professional organizers nationwide. The NAPO challenge, which ended January 31, 2012, collected over 100,000 pairs of shoes. The Organizer who collects the most shoes individually will travel to Haiti with Soles4Souls to witness firsthand the beneficial impact of distributing used shoes to some of the worlds’ neediest. Kelly Galfand, a member of NAPO-GPC, is currently in 3rd position nationwide and ultimately hopes win the top spot.
Local businesses also stepped in and donated their resources. CubeSmart ℠ and United Storage generously donated storage units in Cherry Hill, Philadelphia, and Exton enabling Professional Organizers to collect shoes from their clients and store them during the six-month challenge.
PhillyJunk provided trucks and manpower to transport the 12,000 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls’ Northeast warehouse in Edison, NJ. Marty Ingram, owner of PhillyJunk.com says his employees were happy to participate in such a worthy cause. “NAPO-GPC worked so hard organizing and collecting all those shoes. I didn’t think they should have to use additional resources for transportation when I could provide a fleet of trucks and guys.”
Soles4Souls Inc. has committed to collect and distribute shoes to people living in extreme poverty and recovering from natural disasters. The shoe charity provides one pair of shoes to a person in need every 7 seconds. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 13 million pairs of shoes because of the generosity and commitment of people and organizations like NAPO.
